Scarborough Renaissance Festival runs weekends from April through late May in Waxahachie — a 35-acre village with roughly 200 shoppes, jousting, and live entertainment that draws well over 100,000 Texas visitors across the season. It overlaps almost entirely with our April Slingshot season, and the two make a natural full-day pairing: ride the Bluebonnet Trail Experience in the morning while the light and temperatures are best, then head to the Faire for the afternoon — or the reverse, if you'd rather end your day behind the wheel.

• Morning trail ride. Book the Bluebonnet Trail Experience or, if you're short on time, the 1-hour Drive & Go.
• Afternoon at Scarborough Faire. About 20 minutes from the Welcome Center, running weekends April through late May.

Planning your visit

If you're timing a trip around Scarborough Renaissance Festival, book your Slingshot slot first — festival crowds and parking build through the day, so an early ride followed by an afternoon at the Faire tends to work better than the reverse. Either way, give yourself the full day: between the trails, the Faire, and downtown Waxahachie, there's more here than a rushed afternoon can cover.

Drivers must be 21 or older with a standard Texas driver's license — no motorcycle license required, since the Slingshot is classified as an autocycle under Tex. Transp. Code §521.085(b). When to come

The Ennis Bluebonnet Trails run April 1–30, with peak bloom typically around the third week of the month — timing that lines up well with the opening weekends of Scarborough Renaissance Festival. Book early if you're planning around a specific festival weekend, since April slots fill up.

Ellis County beyond the Faire

Scarborough Renaissance Festival is the biggest draw pulling visitors through Ellis County every spring, but it's not the only reason to be here. Waxahachie's historic courthouse square and Victorian-era downtown are worth a walk-through on their own, and the county overall has a deep well of small-town Texas charm that pairs naturally with an afternoon on the Bluebonnet Trails. If you're building a longer weekend around either destination, treat Ennis and Waxahachie as two stops on the same trip rather than picking one.
