Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might be wondering about
Below is every question we get about driving a Slingshot in Ennis, grouped by topic. If you don't see your question answered here, contact us directly.
Licensing & the law
Do you need a motorcycle license to drive a Slingshot in Texas? No. Texas classifies the Polaris Slingshot as an autocycle under Tex. Transp. Code §501.008, and §521.085(b) allows a standard Class C driver's license — the same one you use for a car — to operate one. No motorcycle endorsement, class, or test is required. Read the full breakdown in Texas Slingshot Laws or our Requirements page.
Is a helmet required to ride a Slingshot in Texas? Motorcycle helmet law applies to autocycles under Tex. Transp. Code §661.0015(b), since a stock Slingshot has no enclosed cab. Under §661.003, riders under 21 must wear a helmet; riders 21 and older are exempt if they've completed a motorcycle safety course or carry health insurance covering collision injuries. We provide helmets for every rider regardless of the exemption, and recommend wearing one.
Cost & what's included
How much does it cost to rent a Slingshot in Ennis? Drive & Go is $69.99 for one hour and one driver. The 2-hour Bluebonnet Trail Experience is $79 solo or $149 for two. A Bluetooth communication helmet add-on is $25. Every price includes fuel and comprehensive insurance, with no deposit. See the full lineup on Slingshot Rental.
What's included in the price? Fuel and comprehensive insurance are included in every package. A Bluetooth communication helmet is a $25 add-on for two-up rides.
Do you require a deposit? No. Comprehensive insurance is included in the price, with a $500 maximum out-of-pocket, so there's no separate deposit hold on your card — unlike most Slingshot rentals in the DFW area.
Approval & insurance
How does driver approval work? After you book, we email a driver-verification link. Approval usually clears within 24 hours. If you're not approved, you receive a full refund — no cancellation fee.
Do I need my own insurance? No. Comprehensive insurance is included with every rental, and your maximum out-of-pocket exposure for vehicle damage or theft is $500.
Rescheduling, cancellation & weather
Can I reschedule my booking? Yes, free of charge, as long as you reschedule at least 7 days before your original date, subject to availability.
What's your cancellation policy? If we cancel due to weather or a mechanical issue, there's no refund, but you get a full reschedule at no cost. We operate rain or shine unless conditions are genuinely unsafe. See our Terms for the full policy.
What if it rains on my rental day? A little rain usually doesn't stop us — Ennis's April average includes roughly a 1-in-4 chance of rain on any given day. If conditions turn unsafe, we'll reschedule you at no charge rather than refund, since the trails and the drive are the point.
Duration, passengers & age
How long does the rental actually take? Two hours total for the Bluebonnet Trail Experience, including a short orientation and safety briefing before you drive; one hour total for Drive & Go. Arrive 15 minutes before your slot.
Can I bring a passenger? Yes, with the Bluebonnet Trail Experience — one driver plus one passenger. Only the driver needs to go through approval; the passenger doesn't. Drive & Go is built as a one-driver, one-hour package.
What's the minimum age to drive? You must be 21 or older to drive with us, with a valid driver's license.
Can I book for a group? Yes — we can typically accommodate small groups of up to four people — two Slingshots, each with a driver and one passenger — in one time slot, which works well for birthdays, bachelorette parties, and small group outings. Contact us ahead of time to coordinate a group booking, since availability depends on the day.
Before you arrive
What should I wear? Closed-toe shoes, sunglasses or eye protection, and sunscreen — it's an open cockpit, so you're exposed to sun and wind. Layers help in cooler April mornings; a hat that ties down or has a low profile works better than a loose one.
Where do we meet you? Every rental starts at the Ennis Welcome Center, 201 NW Main St, Ennis, TX 75119 — the same place the official Bluebonnet Trail maps are handed out.
Is there parking at the meeting point? Yes, at and around the Welcome Center. During the Bluebonnet Trails Festival weekend, downtown parking fills up faster than usual — arrive early or expect a short walk.
Season & booking
What season do you operate? We run our full season in April, when the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails are open (April 1–30) and the wildflowers are at their best. Book early — April, especially festival weekend, sells out.
Do you sell gift cards? Yes, gift cards are available for any package. They're a popular way to give someone a bluebonnet-season experience without locking in a specific date. See Book for details.
Do I get a trail map? Yes. Every rental includes a curated route through the Bluebonnet Trails, and the official Bluebonnet Trail map is also handed out at the Welcome Center where you check in.
Driving the vehicle
Is it hard to drive a Slingshot? Not for most people. It has a steering wheel and pedals, not handlebars, and our fleet uses AutoDrive, an automatic transmission with no clutch — it drives more like a car than a motorcycle. We walk every driver through a short orientation and a supervised practice loop before you're on your own on the trail.
Is a Slingshot safe? Slingshots come standard with ABS, traction control, electronic stability control, and three-point seat belts. There's no roof, doors, or airbags on a stock model, which is why we take orientation and the supervised practice loop seriously before anyone drives on their own.
What's the difference between Drive & Go and the Bluebonnet Trail Experience? Drive & Go is a shorter, one-driver, 60-minute experience for $69.99 — a quick, budget-friendly way to get behind the wheel. The Bluebonnet Trail Experience is the full 2-hour route, available solo ($79) or with a passenger ($149), covering more of the trails.
Can I drive if it's my first time in a Slingshot? Yes — most of our drivers have never been in one before. That's exactly what the orientation and supervised practice loop are for.
