Requirements, Insurance & Driver Approval

What you need: a driver's license, no motorcycle license required

To drive with us, you need a valid Texas (or out-of-state) driver's license and to be 21 or older — that's it. No motorcycle license, endorsement, or class is required. Texas law classifies the Polaris Slingshot as an autocycle, and Tex. Transp. Code §521.085(b) specifically allows a standard Class C driver's license to operate one. This is one of the most misunderstood facts in the entire category, and it's worth stating plainly: if you can legally drive a car in Texas, you can legally drive a Slingshot with us.

Age requirements

• Drivers: 21 or older, with a valid driver's license.
• Passengers: No strict minimum age, but every rider needs to sit securely and wear a seatbelt properly for the full ride.

Insurance & driver approval

Comprehensive insurance is included in every package, with a maximum of $500 out-of-pocket if something goes wrong with the vehicle. After you book, we email a verification link to confirm your license and complete a quick insurance-approval check — it usually clears within 24 hours. If you're not approved for any reason, you receive a full refund; there's no cancellation fee for a failed approval.

We don't require a security deposit on top of this. Your package price is the total cost of the rental (aside from optional add-ons).

Helmets

Texas helmet law for autocycles follows motorcycle rules under Tex. Transp. Code §661.0015(b): riders under 21 must wear a helmet, and riders 21 or older are exempt if they've completed a motorcycle operator safety course or carry a health insurance plan that covers injuries from a collision (§661.003). A stock Slingshot has an open cockpit, so that exemption applies the same way it would on a motorcycle.

Even where it's not legally required, we strongly recommend wearing a helmet — it's an open vehicle on public roads, and the wind, sun, and speed are part of the experience. We rent Bluetooth communication helmets for $25 each so a driver and passenger can talk to each other along the route.

What to wear

• Closed-toe shoes, since you'll be stepping in and out of an open cockpit and operating pedals.
• Sunglasses or eye protection — there's no windshield to speak of, and Texas sun in April is bright even at 78°F average highs.
• Layers, especially for later slots — evenings cool off as the sun drops.
• Sunscreen, particularly for the 2-hour and longer packages.

Rescheduling & cancellation

• Rescheduling is free up to 7 days before your booked date, subject to availability.
• Weather or mechanical cancellations don't come with a refund, but you'll get a free reschedule to another date. We run rain or shine unless conditions are genuinely unsafe to drive.
• Failed driver approval results in a full refund automatically.

What to bring

• Your driver's license — the physical card, not just a photo of it.
• Closed-toe shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen (see "what to wear" above).
• A phone if you want your own photos along the route, in addition to the guided stop that comes with some packages.

What we provide

Every package includes the vehicle, fuel, comprehensive insurance, a safety orientation, and a supervised practice loop. The 2-hour Bluebonnet Trail Experience, Date Night, and Group Convoy packages also include a trail map for the glove box. Helmets are available to rent separately for $25 each, and a self-serve photo add-on is available for $39.

How it drives

Every vehicle is a Polaris Slingshot with AutoDrive — an automatic transmission with no clutch, so it drives like a car — powered by Polaris's ProStar 2.0L four-cylinder engine, up to 204 hp depending on trim. Before you're on your own, every driver gets a short orientation and a supervised practice loop.

If you're booking for someone else

A gift-card purchaser doesn't need to meet any of these requirements themselves — only the person who actually drives does. If you're buying a gift card for a partner, friend, or family member, make sure they're 21 or older with a valid license before you commit to a specific package, since that's what determines eligibility, not who paid for it.
