Why drive south instead of renting in the city
Slingshot rentals based inside Dallas and its close suburbs typically run around $150 for one hour and $200 for two, plus a refundable deposit. Our packages start at $69.99, include comprehensive insurance with no deposit, and put you on the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails rather than city streets. See the full comparison on Pricing.
Make it a day
- Morning or midday ride. Book the Bluebonnet Trail Experience and see the trails at their best.
- Lunch downtown. Historic downtown Ennis has local restaurants a few minutes from the Welcome Center.
- Extend to Waxahachie. About 15 minutes further, Waxahachie & Ellis County is worth adding if you're visiting during Scarborough Renaissance Festival season (April–May).
- See more of Ennis. For restaurants, downtown shopping, and other things to do, check Things to Do in Ennis, TX.
When to come
We operate in April, when the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails are open (April 1–30). Peak bloom typically lands around the third week of the month, and the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival caps the season — historically the second or third weekend of April, though 2027 dates haven't been announced. For the full trail and festival picture, see the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails guide.
What it costs and what you need
Packages run $69.99 to $169, all insurance-included with no deposit. Drivers need to be 21 or older with a standard Texas driver's license — no motorcycle license required, since the Slingshot is legally an autocycle under Tex. Transp. Code §521.085(b). Full requirements are on Requirements.
What the drive actually looks like
From downtown Dallas, it's a straight shot south on I-45 — no turns to track, no downtown-to-downtown traffic since you're driving away from the city core, not through it. Most Dallas visitors treat the drive itself as part of the outing rather than a chore: once you're past the outer loop, the highway opens up and the scenery shifts from suburbs to farmland well before you reach Ennis. If you're leaving from North Dallas or the suburbs, add 10–20 minutes depending on where you start, since I-45 runs from the south side of downtown.
What you'll actually be driving
Every vehicle in our fleet is a Polaris Slingshot with AutoDrive — an automatic transmission with no clutch, so it handles like a car despite looking like nothing you'd see on a Dallas street. It's powered by Polaris's ProStar 2.0L four-cylinder engine, up to 204 hp depending on trim, with two side-by-side seats in an open cockpit. If you've never driven one, a short orientation and supervised practice loop happens before you're ever on your own.
