Drive & Go: The 1-Hour Slingshot Experience

    Part of Slingshot Rental

The fastest way to find out what a Slingshot feels like

Drive & Go is a 60-minute, self-drive Slingshot experience from Ennis, TX for $69.99 — the shortest, most affordable way to get behind the wheel. It's part of our full Slingshot rental lineup, built for people who want real seat time without committing to a full afternoon: a curious first-timer, someone cross-shopping a Slingshot purchase, or a couple squeezing a quick adventure into a busy day trip.

Unlike a dealership test drive, you're not circling a parking lot with a salesperson in the passenger seat. You get a short orientation, a supervised practice loop, and then an hour on real roads through the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails — on your own.

No motorcycle license is required — Texas treats the Slingshot as an autocycle under Tex. Transp. Code §521.085(b), so a standard Class C license covers it. Helmets aren't legally required for most adult riders, but we strongly recommend and rent them ($25, with optional Bluetooth comm). Full policy detail is on Requirements.

Who Drive & Go is for

    • The try-before-you-buy driver. If you're weighing a Slingshot purchase, an hour of real driving tells you more than any brochure. It's a no-dealer test drive on open roads, not a showroom loop.
    • The curious first-timer with limited time. Maybe you're in Ennis for the bluebonnets and want a taste of the drive without the full 2-hour commitment.
    • The budget-conscious solo rider. At $69.99, it's the lowest-cost way to experience a Polaris Slingshot in Texas — well under the hourly rates charged by daily-rental operators in Dallas and Fort Worth, which routinely start above $150 an hour plus a deposit.

If you want more time on the trails and the option to bring a passenger, step up to the 2-hour Bluebonnet Trail Experience, which covers more of the route at a comparable per-hour price.

    How it drives

Every Slingshot in our fleet is a Polaris Slingshot with AutoDrive — an automatic transmission with no clutch, so it drives like a car: steering wheel, gas pedal, brake pedal. It's powered by Polaris's ProStar 2.0L four-cylinder engine, with up to 204 hp depending on trim. Before you head out, we walk through the controls and run a supervised practice loop so the transition from "car" to "Slingshot" happens with someone watching, not on your own on the trail.

    The route

Your Drive & Go route is a shortened version of our Bluebonnet Trail route — enough open road and scenery to get a real feel for the vehicle, with one recommended stop for photos. If you're visiting during bloom season (the trails run April 1–30, typically peaking around the third week), you'll see the wildflowers Ennis is known for along the way. For the full trail picture — loops, timing, and where to look — see the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails guide.

What to expect when you arrive

Plan to be at the Ennis Welcome Center 15 minutes before your slot. We'll check your ID against your driver approval, run through the controls, and take you through a short supervised practice loop before turning you loose. Because AutoDrive behaves a little differently than a normal car transmission — it can downshift on its own to slow the vehicle, which catches first-timers off guard more than anything else — that practice loop matters even for experienced drivers. From there, your hour on the trail is entirely your own.

What Drive & Go doesn't include

To keep this honest: 60 minutes doesn't cover the entire Bluebonnet Trail system, and it's a one-driver package, so it's not the pick if you want to bring someone along in the passenger seat. It also doesn't include the guided photo stop that comes with Golden Hour Date Night or the trail map that ships with the 2-hour packages. If any of that matters more to you than speed and price, the Bluebonnet Trail Experience is the better starting point.

    Add a helmet

A Bluetooth communication helmet rents for $25. It's not legally required for most adult riders — Texas treats an autocycle like a motorcycle for helmet purposes, with an exemption for riders 21 and older who've completed a safety course or carry qualifying health insurance — but we strongly recommend one regardless, since it's an open cockpit at speed. Full helmet and age rules are on Requirements.

Coming from Dallas or Fort Worth

Ennis is about 35 miles south of downtown Dallas on I-45, roughly a 37-minute drive — and about 57 miles from Fort Worth. If you're planning the trip, Near Dallas and Near Fort Worth cover drive times, parking, and how to make a full day of it. If you're coming from further out, Slingshot Rental in Texas covers travel from Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Waco.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Drive & Go is a 60-minute, one-driver Slingshot experience for $69.99 — a shorter version of our 2-hour Bluebonnet Trail Experience, built for a quick test drive or a tighter schedule. It includes the same orientation, supervised practice loop, and insurance as our longer packages, just on a shorter route.

Yes — it's the closest thing to a no-dealer test drive available in North Texas. You get real seat time on open roads, not a parking-lot loop, without visiting a dealership or committing to a longer, pricier rental just to see how it feels.

No. A Slingshot is legally an autocycle in Texas, and Tex. Transp. Code §521.085(b) allows a standard Class C driver's license — the one you already carry — to operate it. You do need to be 21 or older to drive with us.

Drive & Go is built as a one-driver, one-hour package. If you want to ride two-up, the 2-hour Bluebonnet Trail Experience is designed for a driver and a passenger and covers more of the trail route at a similar per-hour price.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your slot for check-in and a quick safety briefing; the 60 minutes on the trail starts after that. It's enough time for a real driving loop and a photo stop, without the commitment of a longer package.
